Inspired By My Collage Group

I made these pieces today in my monthly collage group. There's nothing like hanging out with a small group of artists creating our own stuff while enjoying each others' good company. Both pieces make use of acrylic gel-printed tissues and papers.

The Joys of Recycling

This collage started off as an unsuccessful monoprint. I thought I'd incorporate the print into this new project, but by the time I was done, and added my acrylic painted papers and some acrylic paint, none of it was visible any longer. Some pieces just seem right on the first pass, but this one took a lot of editing until I was happy with it.

Revisions

There are times when I just don't know whether a piece is done. Or, I think it's done and then I change my mind. These two gel plate prints were like that, until I added a bit of collage to each of them. Now I think they're finished. We'll see!

Jumping Fish

It's been hard to find time lately to create, but a couple of weeks ago I was inspired by the company of my collage group friends and put together this piece, which I call Jumping Fish. The papers are my own acrylic-painted tissue paper and acrylic-painted deli paper. The substrate is 8" x 8" Stonehenge.It makes me smile!

Index Card Collage

Here's a little collage on an index card, inspired by various other artists' ICAD (Index Card A Day) projects. Materials: index card, acrylic painted paper, magazine pictures, washi tape, 3" x 5".

Summer Doings

I spent a refreshing week last month at Jane Davies' Collage Journeys In Vermont 2013 workshop. Check out this link to see Jane's post about it. This was my second year. What a fun and relaxing way to spend a summer vacation - art and Vermont together, along with the company of some wonderful fellow students!


I came home with a lot of works in progress. These two are the closest to being done, as I see it.

New Gelatin Prints

I made a bunch of Gelli prints tonight for Carla Sonheim's Gelli Printmaking class. Here are a couple that I'm calling done. The rest are still works in progress.

Inner Geologies

I'm currently taking Extreme Composition with the incomparable Jane Davies. I created this series "Inner Geologies" as part of a lesson in this fabulous online class. Each piece is acrylic and ink on watercolor paper, 4.75" square.

Collage Journeys in VT 2012

I had such a good time at Jane Davies' Collage Journeys in Vermont 2012 workshop this past week in Rupert, VT. We created a lot of painted papers to add to our paper stash. We did studies, both small and large. I took the plunge and started a few 22" x 30" works. Here's a sampling of my work and a few scenes of Rupert and environs:

Circles and Lizards and Pears, Oh My!

I'm taking another fabulous Jane Davies online art class and recently made these studies in shape for one of our lessons. Jane and my classmates are so supportive. The third of these, the one with the lizards, wasn't going so well, and I was ready to give it up. With their encouragement, I took another crack at it and came up with something I like - a lot! The Poulnabrone Dolmen is a neolithic portal tomb in
the Burren area of County Clare, Ireland.
This wasn't done in Jane's class;

The background is a paste paper from my stash.

This one went all over the map.
My original intent was quiet joy. It wasn't being
so quiet, so with the addition of the blue-green-yellow
deli paper at center right between the two circles,
I was going for bittersweet. Well, I added the green
and red circles, and wound up with more of a
sensation that an emotion, but no matter, I like it.
